Soy Latino Como Tú (SLT), is a non-profit organization founded on August 14th 2016 with the objective to incentivize the parents of Latin American origin, including Spain, to instill their native roots to their children born here in the United Stated through cultural identity and leadership. The organization offers students of Latino descent and other nationalities, the opportunity to have a global vision of the diverse cultural existence in the country through the program “Inclusion and Viaje Raices” with the idea to reduce racial harassment and discrimination within schools and society. SLT consists of a large team from diverse backgrounds in Latin American countries, including Spain, to prepare and respond to the needs of students and guide them in their personal and intellectual journey that allows them to develop for their professional careers. The founder began the idea of the organization after seeing that her daughter essentially had little knowledge of her cultural identity, which is a problem that can be found in many young people today who were born in the U.S. with parents of Latino or Spanish descent. After much research about why the knowledge of the cultural heritage of youth in today’s generation was being lost, grew the idea to create the organization SLT, which helps young people understand their native roots and to have a better understanding for their Latino culture.
